America’s Heartland Up in Smoke: Court TV Explores The Drug Epidemic Plaguing The Nation in “Al Roker Investigates: Meth, Murder & Madness”

Premieres Monday, March 20th at 11:00 PM ET/PT

(March 6 - New York, NY)

Ice, crystal, glass: innocent-sounding names for America’s most dangerous drug, methamphetamine, the highly addictive stimulant that has insinuated itself into our cities and towns, hooking beauty queens and soccer moms alike. Easily made with ingredients found in the local supermarket and mixed in make-shift “labs” around the country, meth is an epidemic that has law enforcement working overtime. Now, Court TV goes inside the outbreak in Al Roker Investigates: Meth, Murder & Madness premiering Monday, March 20th at 11:00 PM ET/PT. In this compelling documentary, Roker learns about "meth combat," joining law enforcement as they train with practice raids on highly-explosive meth labs, and educating viewers on the lethal drug through interviews with local officials, federal drug enforcement officials, addicts and former addicts and families whose lives have been ruined by meth.

Small, sleepy towns around the country are falling prey to the horrors of methamphetamine. One immediate result is spiking crime rates – from petty theft to violence – which are causing new problems for local governments and law enforcement officials. Roker begins his investigation in the small Midwestern town of Crothersville, Indiana, whose meth problem made the headlines when a little girl was found murdered, and a meth addict is at first the prime suspect. A look at similar towns around the country reveals how meth takes hold, crossing socio-economic barriers, damaging lives and creating environmentally hazardous materials. And, Roker rides along with police as they train in simulated meth labs and speaks with officials who are spending millions on police training for the newest phase in the war on drugs.
